Finches are identified by their large sturdy bills. They can be found throughout North America, and the surrounding Countries in the world.
These are seed eating birds and are a common visitor around birdfeeders, preferring the black-oiled sunflower seeds and niger.
There are many native birds which are called finches, or in other cases, the name finch being a part of their name. The grosbeaks and the siskins are part of the finch family. Some of the other finches listed below are vagrants. The Eurasian Bullfinch is the only bullfinch, that has been reported seen in North America. Other finches, such as the Saffron Finch and European Greenfinch have been raised in captivity, sold in pet store, and sometimes ecaping and identified in the wild.
