The Steller's Eider is the smallest member of the eider family. The male can be easily seen and identified by its snow white plumage. They are arctic ducks belonging to the diving duck group and are known as the fastest flying eider among the other eiders. They are considered vulnerable and their overall numbers are declining.

It was with this list that all the competing birders used in an attempt to set a new record as to how many bird species that could be seen by an individual birder in one calendar year.
